Model Workplace Violence Survey

BENEFITS

Canadian employers are required to protect workers from the risk of workplace violence, which can be more challenging than protecting them from traditional safety hazards, such as falls, hazardous substances and entrapment in machinery.

In general, employers should first assess the workplace to determine if there’s a risk of violence in the workplace. One way to assess the workplace is by giving workers a survey to determine their perception of the risk of violence on the job.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Adapt this model workplace violence survey for your workplace, type of operations and industry. Then give it to all workers, permitting them to complete it anonymously. Explain to them:

  • The purpose of the survey;
  • How the survey results will be reported;
  • With whom the results will be shared; and
  • How the results will be used, such as to develop a violence policy for the workplace or improve the existing one.
