Roofing Company Owner Jailed for Three Days for Trying to Fool MOL

Two workers for a roofing company and the company owner were working on a residential roofing project. Fall protection wasn’t available to workers on the project. One worker fell 18 feet from the roof and was injured. After the worker fell, the owner told another worker to go onto the roof, and put up lifelines and fall protection equipment in an attempt to deceive the subsequent MOL investigation. The owner pleaded guilty to failing to ensure a worker was adequately protected by a method of fall protection and attempting to hinder, obstruct, molest or interfere with an inspector. The court fined him $5,000 on the first charge and sentenced him to three days’ jail on the second [A. Bradley Clothier, Govt. News Release, Nov. 7, 2016].
