An explosion at a refinery sent several workers to the hospital and injured 52 people. An investigation found that the explosion was caused by a ruptured pipe thinned by corrosion. The refinery was charged with several safety offences, including failing to have a general corrosion monitoring program, to adequately maintain equipment and to ensure worker safety. It pleaded guilty to failing to properly supervise the work at the site and has not yet been sentenced.
