Sept 30: When the Assembly reconvenes, keep your eye on Bill 12 which would double the maximum penalty for a Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act violation to $500K and $1 million for second and subsequent offence. Other proposed changes in the Bill, which hasn’t advanced since First Reading back in March 2019:

  • Elimination of the chief prevention officer position
  • Six-month limit on discriminatory action (now known as reprisal) claims
  • Allow for dismissal of frivolous or vexatious appeals of safety and health officer orders.
