Temporary Removal of Guardrails Safe Work Procedure

You’re allowed to temporarily remove guardrails if you do it safely.

It may become necessary to temporarily remove guardrails to perform certain operations. You’re allowed to do this, provided that you follow the OHS requirements for temporary removal of guardrails and covering that apply in your jurisdiction. The following Safe Work Procedure is based on Ontario OHS laws’particularly the requirements for working at heights training and use of a travel restraint system’but can be adapted for use in any jurisdiction. You can also adapt it for temporary removal of coverings placed on openings in a floor, wall, roof or other work surface.
