Ergonomics: No Proof that Repetitive Work Tasks Caused Housekeeper’s Shoulder Injury

A housekeeper claimed she developed shoulder problems as a result of doing repetitive tasks at work. The New Brunswick WHSCC, as it was called back then, rejected her workers comp claim, finding that the repetitive motions she engaged in to perform cleaning tasks weren’t enough to cause the medical problems to her shoulder. The Commission also noted that she had also been involved in an off-work car accident that may have accounted for her injuries. while performing cleaning jobs as a housekeeper. The Appeal Tribunal agreed that the worker didn’t meet her burden of proving that the injury was work-related and upheld the ruling [20229657 (Re), 2022 CanLII 5509 (NB TAAT), January 25, 2022].
