Employers have a duty to take all reasonable steps to protect workers from being injured in the workplace both physically and mentally. Workers who suffer mental injuries, such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, may file workers’ comp claims or sue the company for damages. Workplace stress hurts the bottom line in other ways, too. So you must ensure that the workplace is “psychologically safe” that is, free from hazards such as harassment, bullying, violence and mental stress. For example, you should set a psychological harassment policy.
