Workers, Supervisor & Company Fined for Fall of Construction Equipment

At a condominium building construction site, a supervisor from the company hired to perform the formwork assigned workers to move a fly table to an upper floor. One of the workers was overseeing the placement of the table, which wasn’t tied or secured. While it was being hoisted, it became unbalanced and slid to the ground, landing on neighbouring railway property. No one was hit by it, however. The company, supervisor and worker pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that every part of a project was constructed so it’s supported and braced to prevent any movement. The court fined the company $50,000, the supervisor $3,000 and the worker $2,000 [Paramount Structures Ltd., Luis Pavao and Carlos Cordeiro, Govt. News Release, May 23, 2013].
