Worker’s Death in Mobile Home Collapse Leads to $25,000 Fine for Operator

Workers employed by a demolition and salvage business were removing a dilapidated mobile home from a property. They’d removed the interior paneling and aluminum siding when the roof suddenly collapsed on two workers inside. One of the workers was killed; the other was seriously injured. The mobile home had been damaged before demolition started. Its structural integrity was further diminished by the removal of its interior walls and exterior cladding. The operator of the business pleaded guilty, as an employer, to failing to ensure that the mobile home was demolished systematically from the highest to the lowest point and was fined $25,000 [Mike Vallee, Govt. News Release, Oct. 11, 2012].
