As do I believe all the other provinces and territories, Alberta follows the new federal Canada Criminal Code standards and penalties for THC, i.e., the intoxicating ingredient in marijuana that causes impairment. Impairment is measured in nanograms (ng) of THC per mililitre (ml) of blood.
*more than 2 ng/ml but less than 5ng/ml THC: Maximum $1,000 fine
*5 or more ng/ml THC:
>First offence: mandatory $1,000 fine
>Second offence: minimum 30 days in jail
>Third and subsequent offences: minimum 120 days jail
Hope that helps. Glenn
