    No. Sec. 241(b) of the New Brunswick OHS General Regs. requires employees at risk of coming into contact with moving parts of a machine or moving machine to “confine or cut head and facial hair,” but doesn’t go into specifics about how long beards can be. And neither do any of the other jurisdictions.
    Bottom Line: It’s not the length of the beard that counts but making sure that it’s not exposed or dangling. Half an inch may be all it takes to get entangled so workers gotta keep the hair confined. Things get a bit trickier if we’re talking about tight-fitting respirators, in which case worker may have to be totally clean shaven. Hope that helps. Glenn.
