7-Eleven Fined $340,000 for Not Protecting Night Workers from Violence

After visiting two 7-Eleven stores, WorkSafeBC inspectors spotted several violations in the company’s violence prevention program for late-night retail, including: i. Workers working alone at night weren’t wearing a personal emergency transmitter; ii. Cash tills at one location were still active and contained more cash than stated on store signage; iii. The displayed lottery ticket stock hadn’t been reduced; and iv. Workers weren’t provided safety information, instruction, training and supervision. Since these were repeat violations, the agency slammed the company with $399,444 in OHS penalties [7-Eleven Canada, Inc., 7-Eleven Food Stores].
