$109,000 in AMPs Issued for Runaway Railcar
A company left a railcar loaded with asphalt unattended at an industrial plant in Regina, Saskatchewan. Because the railcar’s handbrakes hadn’t been applied, it started to roll away from its stopped position. In addition, emergency communication procedures weren’t followed once it started to roll. As a result, Transport Canada issued the company two administrative monetary penalties totalling $109,000 for violations of the Railway Safety Act and the Canadian Rail Operating Rules [Cando Contracting Ltd., Govt.
