    Good Morning,
Our Oil and Gas company is in the midst of revamping our Lifting, Rigging and Hoisting Standard for crane operation and a topic that recently came up was the Lifting Director role. Recently a colleague has attended an external Lifting Director course to which the facilitator was a Crane Inspector. During the course it was shared by the instructor that the site or facility owner needs to have an employee that would be the “Lift Director” even though we Third Party most our lifts out. My question would be where in OHS or ASME,CSA would it indicate that the facility owner would need to have such a role even though we bring in companies like Mammoot to complete lifts as they are the SME’s. Additionally based on your knowledge how do other companies manage this if it is in fact a requirement.

    Thanks

The best way to answer this question would be to furnish both OHS law and non-regulatory analysis. I’m afraid I don’t have enough technical knowledge about cranes to provide the non-legal perspective. However, I should be able to help with the legal side. Can you tell me which jurisdiction you’re in so I can look up the pertinent OHS regulations?
