I think that’s the entire list. LMK if I missed something.in reply to: Private: SOP samples #103373The list has somewhat shortened: Now we’re just looking for sample SOPs for some or all of the following:
Power Boat, Snowmachine, Canoes, Kayak, Snowblower, Lawnmower, Weedwackers/Weedblowers, Plough Truck, Chainsaw, Woodstove
Samples would really help as a reference point, as currently we don’t have anything.
in reply to: Number of First Aiders #103372Hi Glenn – did this provide you enough information?
in reply to: Number of First Aiders #103371Also, the Security guards are not directly in our office space, they would be in the building lobby or elsewhere.
in reply to: Number of First Aiders #103370Thanks Glenn. Sorry for the delay getting back to you. The jurisdiction is B.C., we’re low risk work type, and we’re within 20 minutes of a hospital. We typically have 6-7 people in the office once a week. Then once a month there is a team lunch event, where there’s about 30 people in attendance.
in reply to: Number of First Aiders #103369I believe so but I’ll look it up just to be sure. Just need to know: a. Your jurisdiction; b. Number of workers; and c. Distance to nearest hospital.
in reply to: First Aid Harmonization Rules #103368Thanks Glenn!
in reply to: First Aid Harmonization Rules #103367That’s a great question. The “harmonization” rules aren’t a separate regulation but a series of revisions to whatever regulations set out the first aid requirements for that jurisdiction. In most provinces, that’s the OHS regulations. But there are exceptions. Example: In Ontario and BC, first aid regulations are part of the workers comp laws.
Harmonization applies to kits, equipment and training but not the numbers of first aiders required at particular workplaces. In other words, harmonization doesn’t change the basic rules for calculating numbers of first aiders needed based on numbers of workers, location and distance from a hospital and risk of the operations performed.in reply to: First Aid – Weekend Work #103366Thanks Glenn!
in reply to: First Aid – Weekend Work #103365Generally, responsibility the company with control over the work has the primary responsibility, which in this case sounds like the client–especially where the work is done at its facilities. This would very likely be the case for kits, first aid rooms and other provisions relating to the facility itself. A case could be made that responsibility for first aid personnel falls to you. But it depends on jurisdiction and the situation.
in reply to: forklift training and retraining frequency #103364I’m a bit confused. It sounds like the corporate standard and B335 standard are both 3 years. In either case, following the more stringent standard is the safer approach.
Following B335 would be mandatory in provinces whose OHS laws incorporate the standard by reference. In other jurisdictions, it would be best practice to the extent the OHS regulation requires 4 years or more, or doesn’t address the issue at all. Hope that helps. Glenn- PFLs are a form of fall arrest rather than fall arrest to the extent they don’t prevent but merely stop a fall. I don’t see anything indicating that the Turbo T-bak is no longer an accepted form of fall arrest equipment, let alone a reason why
- I’m afraid I’m just not qualified to comment on the suitability of either the SRL-LE or LE-R. But maybe we can ask the OHS Insider users what their own experience has been. Contact me at glennd@bongarde.com if you’re interested in a user survey
- Again, this is a technical question that I just can’t answer. It’s not addressed in any of the OHS regulations or MOL guidelines. But again, we can poll the users.
for sure – thank you so much for looking into this!
Oh my gosh. I’m going to need to spend some time researching this. Can you give me a day or two?
in reply to: employees-with-cpr #103360It’s Section 5-5 of the OHS Regulation, which provides:
First aid personnel
5‑5(1) An employer or contractor shall:
(a) provide the personnel set out in Table 9 of the Appendix for:
(i) the level of risk associated with the work carried out at the place of
employment as determined by a workplace first aid risk assessment; and
(ii) the number of workers at the place of employment at any one time;
and (b) ensure that the personnel are readily available during working hours.
(2) An employer or contractor shall ensure that the personnel required pursuant to subsection (1) have the qualifications set out in Table 1 or Table 3 of the Appendix, as the case may require

You need to scroll down to the Tables in the Appendix and apply the criteria to your own situation. Hope that helps. -
