Young Worker’s Injury in Pinch Point Results in $100,000 Fine

A young worker employed by the constructor of a city project to reclaim landfill was operating a trommel machine, which is used to screen and separate material. He was using a pick to clear the trommel of material when he was pulled into an exposed pinch point created by the drive wheels. He was able to get free but suffered an injury that required medical attention. The constructor pleaded guilty to a guarding violation and was fined $100,000 [Tervita Corp., Govt.
