Worker’s Serious Injury from Steam Explosion Results in $93,800 Fine

A worker was seriously injured while removing molten metal from a slag pit. A steam explosion occurred when molten metal made contact with water that had accumulated in the pit area. The employer pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that work performed in the removal of molten metal from a slag pit was performed in a safe manner.
