Worker’s Illness Not Caused by Exposure to Lead Dust on the Job

A worker filed a claim for multiple chemical sensitivity, arguing that the illness was caused by exposure to lead dust and other substances at work. Her claim was denied so she appealed. The Appeals Tribunal found that the evidence suggested that it was unlikely that the symptoms suffered by the worker arose as a result of exposures in her workplace. Although she may have been exposed to lead dust on the job, it wasn’t likely that such exposure was of a sufficient degree or duration to cause lead poisoning or any other illness [2012-599-AD (Re), [2013] CanLII 85119 (NS WCAT), Dec. 31, 2013].
