Worker’s Fractured Leg Results in $70,000 Fine

A carpenter and a co-worker were trying to position a large wall form using a 12-foot-long, 4″ x 4″ piece of lumber as a lever. The lumber broke and one of the workers stumbled forward and tripped, suffering a fracture to one leg. At trial, the company was found guilty of failing to ensure that material or equipment at a project is stored and moved in a manner that doesn’t endanger a worker and was fined $70,000 [Avenue Building Corp., Govt.
