Worker’s Finger Amputations Cost Employer $42,250

A worker was trying to clear a blockage in a piping system that was connected to a ‘trim chopper.’ His right hand was drawn into the trim chopper, which was fully energized, and his index and middle fingers were amputated. His employer pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the worker was adequately trained and supervised to safely operate the equipment and was fined $42,250 [Winpak Ltd., Govt.
