Worker’s Fatal Crushing under Car Results in $60,000 Fine

A worker preparing a car to be scrapped propped the front of the car on a fuel tank and began working underneath it to drain its fluids. The car slid off the fuel tank, fatally crushing him. His employer pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that machinery, equipment or material that was temporarily elevated and under which a worker worked was securely and solidly blocked to prevent it from falling or moving. The court fined the employer $60,000 [Plank Road Auto Wreckers Ltd., Govt. News Release, July 22, 2014].
