Workers’ Comp Nixes Medical Cannabis for Worker on Prescription Opioids

The Workers’ Comp Appeals Tribunal upheld the denial of payment for medical cannabis to treat pain from a work-related finger amputation citing the following reasons:

• The worker’s previous addiction to opioids
• The worker was back on opioids for the injury and simultaneous use of opioids and cannabis violated medical guidelines
• The worker’s own family physician of 18 years opposed his using medical cannabis
