Worker Got Trapped & Injured When Tilt Cab on Truck Dropped

A worker was completing a suspension overhaul on a fire truck. The cab of the truck was raised by a tilt cylinder rod, which had to fully extend for it to be locked in place. While the worker was leaning over the front passenger tire, the tilt cylinder rod wasn’t fully extended and there was no other blocking in place. The tilt cab control lever moved into the manual position, releasing the hydraulics on the tilt cab and causing it to drop. The worker was trapped between the cab and a tire, and suffered serious injuries. The employer pleaded guilty to failing to ensure that the tilt cab was blocked when repair work was being performed on it and was fined $50,000 [Vince’s Spring Service Ltd., Govt.
