Where to Get Information & Answers on Workers’ Comp Reform in Ontario

In late 2012, the Ontario government appointed the Arthurs Commission to address the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)’s huge funding deficit and develop recommendations on how to reform the workers’ comp system overall.

On May 4, 2012, the Commission released its 188-page final report. Yes, 188 pages.

To get a handle on the report and its recommendations, read a five-part series by Ontario lawyer Kevin D. MacNeill, a partner with Heenan Blaikie LLP. The series covers:

  1. The Commission’s mandate and how the WSIB’s problems developed
  2. Proposed new funding strategy
  3. Premium rate setting principles and processes
  4. Rate groups and experience rating
  5. Occupational disease and benefits for partially disabled workers.

In addition, attend the OHS Insider’s webinar on July 26 on Ontario WSIB reform by lawyer Ryan Conlin, a partner with Stringer LLP. The webinar will include:

  • A practical overview of the proposed workers’ comp overhaul, including the trends and developments you need to follow now if you’re responsible for OHS or WSIB compliance in your organization
  • A rundown on the major WSIB issues addressed by the Arthurs Commission
  • What actions are and will be taken to implement the Commission’s recommendations and what all of this will mean to your own organization
  • The likely timetable for the next steps
  • An opportunity to ask questions on WSIB reform and how it’s likely to affect your organization.
