Well Servicing Company Penalized $185,000 for Diesel Spill

A broken plastic tube attached to an out-of-service diesel tank owned by a well servicing company allowed 300 to 600 litres of diesel to spill onto the ground. An unknown amount of fuel made its way into nearby Blackmud Creek. The company pleaded guilty to depositing a deleterious substance into water frequented by fish in violation of the federal Fisheries Act. It was fined $5,000 and ordered to pay $180,000 to the Environmental Damages Fund [Ensign Well Servicing Inc., Govt. News Release, April 9, 2015].
