Trench/Excavation Safety Checklist

BENEFITS

Trenches and excavations poses various safety hazards to the workers who must work in and around them, such as the risk of cave-ins or collapses. So it’s important to inspect trenches and excavations to ensure that they comply with the requirements in the OHS laws and are safe for workers.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Have a supervisor or other ‘competent person‘ complete this checklist, which you may need to adapt based on the OHS requirements of your province, to carry out inspections of any excavations and trenches at your work site that workers enter. Address any issues identified in the inspection before workers start work. And keep the completed forms to document that you conducted such inspections.
