Training Violation Results in $12,000 Fine

A worker was operating the hydraulics control unit of a ship loading conveyor when it flipped, crushing him and causing serious injuries. WorkSafeNB’s investigation found that the employer had failed to train and instruct the worker on the safe procedure for a conveyor changeover. It pleaded guilty to failing to provide the necessary training to ensure a worker’s health and safety and was fined $12,000 [Jamer Materials Ltd., Govt. News Release, Dec. 16, 2015].
