Oct. 30: Key tactics in SAFE Work Manitoba’s new 5-year plan for preventing occupational illnesses:
- Monitor worker exposure to physical and chemical hazards
- Use monitoring data to determine safe exposure levels
- Educate and build awareness of occupational illness and prevention
- Partner with private industry on prevention initiatives.
Dec. 31: That’s the informal deadline for the Advisory Council on Workplace Safety and Health conducting legislatively mandated 5-year review of the OHS laws to issue its recommendations. We’ll keep you apprised.
Oct. 27: The government’s newly unveiled Made-in-Manitoba Climate and Green Plan establishes carbon pricing at $25 per tonne, half the amount mandated by Ottawa. The 5-year pricing program begins in 2018 and would position Manitoba as having the second lowest carbon prices in the country by 2022. Cumulative emissions are expected to drop by over 80,000 tonnes over the next 5 years.
