Are You Prepared to Comply with Ontario’s New Awareness Training Regulation?

On Nov. 15, 2013, the Ontario Ministry of Labour released a final regulation that requires all workers and supervisors to complete mandatory OHS awareness training, as recommended in the Dean Report. (Read this alert for an overview of the regulation.)

MacNeill will cover the main aspects of the new regulation including:

  • The contents of the regulation itself
  • How to comply with the regulation.

In addition, MacNeill will situate the new regulation in the current OHS context in Ontario by reviewing more generally employers’ duties to :

  • Ensure that measures and procedures prescribed by regulation are carried out in the workplace
  • Provide information, instruction and supervision to workers to protect their health and safety
  • Appoint competent supervisors.

He’ll also briefly touch on enforcement trends at the Ministry of Labour, including fines for non-compliance with the duty to provide information, instruction and supervision to workers.
