A company’s safety culture—that is, its attitude and approach to ensuring workers’ health and safety—has a profound impact on the success of its OHS program. Having a robust safety culture involves many components. And there are different things you can do to improve each of these components if you believe your safety culture is lacking or could be improved.

This checklist is based on a booklet by the CPWR that’s designed to help management, safety professionals and workers learn more about important leading safety indicators and ideas for strengthening safety climate. The booklet includes worksheets for eight key indicators.
Use this checklist to determine whether your company is doing all it can to establish a strong safety culture. For all “no” answers, consider whether you should implement those ideas or strategies and then take steps to do so.
