One the JHSC’s most important functions is making recommendations to management on safety. For example, the JHSC may recommend that workers be retrained on lockout procedures if it notes that workers haven’t been locking out machinery when making repairs or clearing jams. Or it may recommend that safety measures be implemented to address new hazards it has identified.
HOW TO USE THE TOOL
Adapt this model form for your company’s OHS program and operations, and the OHS laws in your jurisdiction. Your JHSC can use it when making safety recommendations to management. The form documents the area of concern, the committee’s recommendation and the reasons for the recommendation as well as the employer’s response and any committee follow-up.
