JHSCs are not only a key component of your OHS program—they’re also usually required by OHS law. Among other things, JHSCs help identify safety issues, conduct regular workplace inspections and participate in investigations of safety incidents. So it’s important that your JHSC complies with all OHS requirements and functions effectively.
HOW TO USE THE TOOL
Adapt this checklist for your company’s OHS program and the JHSC requirements under the OHS laws in your jurisdiction, including requirements on meeting minutes and education/training. The checklist identifies the activities employers need to perform to maintain a compliant committee. Set deadlines for the completion of each activity not currently being performed and note when it’s been completed.
