Supervisor Sentenced to 45 Days’ Jail for Worker’s Fall from Roof

A worker was tossing loose shingles from a roof toward a bin when he stepped back and slipped. He rolled off the roof and landed on a walkway. His injury resulted in permanent paralysis of the lower body. After an MOL investigation, his employer and a supervisor were charged with OHS violations. During this investigation, a company representative attended a meeting with an MOL inspector but refused to answer any questions. The representative was convicted of obstructing an inspector and fined $2,000. The court convicted the employer and supervisor, too.
