Supervisor Heat Stress Checklist

BENEFITS

During the hot and humid weather of the summer, you must protect workers from not only the usual hazards, but also overexposure to the heat, especially if they work outside. (Of course, in some workplaces, such as bakeries or foundries, heat stress is a hazard year-round.) Exposure to extreme heat, whether due to the weather or from equipment, can lead to heat stroke, heat exhaustion and other forms of heat stress—and even kill workers.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Give this checklist to supervisors who oversee workers at risk of heat stress. They should use it to ensure that they have what they need at the worksite and have taken appropriate safety measures each day to protect workers from getting overheated.
