Subcontractors Fined $76K for Arctic Station Work Injury

A worker fractured his leg during concrete pouring operations at the CHARS Arctic Research Station. Although WSCC initially charged several different parties with multiple OHS violations, it ultimately secured only single convictions against two subcontractors: Best Choice Construction which was fined $60K after pleading guilty to failure to take all reasonable precautions to protect the worker and Kitnuna Projects which pleaded guilty to failing to provide adequate safety instruction and was fined $16K. All other charges in the case were dropped [Best Choice Construction, Kitnuna Projects, Govt. News Release, March 20, 2018].
