Subcontractor Fined $275,000 after Worker Is Killed by Reversing Tractor-Trailer

A tractor-trailer being driven by a worker employed by a subcontractor was backing up to a loading dock at another company’s facility. A truck was parked next to it to sell safety equipment. A company worker emerged from the mobile safety truck and was struck by the reversing tractor-trailer; he died from his injuries. The subcontractor was convicted of failing to use barriers, warning signs or other safeguards for the protection of all workers in an area where vehicle or pedestrian traffic may endanger worker safety and failing to operate a vehicle without use of a signaler.
