Sharps Injury & Illness Prevention (Non-Medical Site) Policy

INTRODUCTION

Working with or near sharp blades or edges poses 2 significant hazards to workers:

  1. Risk of cuts, lacerations and punctures to skin, muscles, nerves, bones and internal organs; and
  2. Infectious illness if the cutting agent is contaminated with harmful chemicals or infectious germs, viruses, bacteria or other biological agents.

Although sharps and infectious illness policies are mostly associated with healthcare workplaces, they’re a must for any work site where sharps are or may be present. Here’s a basic sharps safety policy that will work for manufacturing, construction and just about any other non-healthcare site.
