Coal Miner Wasn’t Exposed to More Workplace Stress than Other Miners


A coal miner filed a workers’ comp claim for mental stress, which was denied. The Appeals Tribunal also rejected the miner’s claim. Mining is dangerous and therefore stressful. But this miner failed to prove that he was subjected to “unusual and excessive stressors” in the context of the profession of underground coal mining [WCAT #2006-129-AD-CA, [2010] CanLII 56794 (NS W.C.A.T.), Sept. 30, 2010].
