April 20: WHSCC Reports Injury Rates for 2011

The WHSCC reported that the number of workplace injuries resulting in lost-time compensation claims in 2011 was consistent with 2010, with 4,070 workers injured, representing 1.8 incidents per 100 workers. Also, there were 491 young workers injured on the job in 2011 (but no fatalities), a lost time incidence rate of 1.7 incidents per 100 young workers—the second year in a row that the youth lost time incidence rate has been lower than the provincial average.
