Sept. 29: Bill on Violence Against Transit Drivers Gets Third Reading

Bill S-221, which would amend Canada’s Criminal Code to require courts imposing sentences for assaults against transit operators to “consider as an aggravating circumstance the fact that the victim of the offence was… a public transit operator engaged in the performance of his or her duty,” reached its third reading in the Senate.  The change would apply to drivers of buses, paratransit vehicles, taxis, subways, streetcars and ferries.
