May 28: Changes to Workers’ Comp Law Proposed

Ontario has introduced legislation to amend three separate acts affecting workers, including the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. These changes would, among other things:

  • Bar employers from trying to prevent workers from reporting workplace injury or illness to the WSIB by ensuring that they’re protected from retribution
  • Increase maximum corporate penalties from $100,000 to $500,000 for conviction of an offence under the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.
