July 28: Work on Pipeline Stopped for Safety and Environmental Issues

The National Energy Board ordered Enbridge Inc. to stop maintenance work on its Line 3 oil pipeline after an inspection revealed numerous environmental and safety concerns, including damage to wetlands and agricultural land, erosion, lack of safe access to agricultural land, and open excavations and trenchlines. Before work can continue, Enbridge must complete a detailed assessment of these issues and put together an action plan, with a detailed timetable, to address each item.
