BENEFITS

Many workplaces use powered mobile equipment (PME), such as forklifts, scissor lifts, tractors and cranes,  on a regular basis. PMEs are great tools but, if not used properly, can pose safety hazards to the workers who operate them and their co-workers. So it’s important that the workers who run such equipment are properly trained on its operation and maintenance.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Adapt this checklist for the PME requirements in the OHS regulations in your jurisdiction and the specific type of PME in question. Use it to assess the competency of  workers trained to operate such equipment. If the completed checklist reveals any gaps in the worker’s knowledge or skills, ensure that these gaps are addressed with additional training (classroom or practical) and instruction.
