July 16: Bill Introduced to Expand Definition of ‘Worker’

The government introduced Bill 18, the Stronger Workplaces for a Stronger Economy Act, 2014, which would make changes to a number of laws including the OHS Act. Bill 18 would expand the definition of “worker” to include certain classes of unpaid workers, such as students who perform work or supply services under authorized work experience programs and trainees, giving them the same rights and duties as paid workers, such as the right to refuse work.
