April 28: Fines for Workers’ Comp Violations Could Increase

A bill before the Manitoba legislature would increase the maximum fines for violations of the Workers Compensation Act. The maximum fine for employers would rise to $50,000 from $7,500 and increase to $5,000 from $1,500 for workers. If passed, Bill 65 would also bar employers from taking discriminatory action against any worker who exercises their rights under workers’ comp law.
