April 23: Workers’ Comp Protections to Be Extended to Rescue Volunteers

Nova Scotia Labour and Workforce Development introduced amendments to the Volunteer Fire Services Act to extend protections given volunteer firefighters to volunteer members of ground search and rescue teams, such as $100,000 to the estate of volunteers who die accidentally while performing their duties. There are 24 volunteer ground search and rescue teams across the province with more than 1,000 members.
