June 29: Union Worried about Firing of Safety Personnel

Transport Canada is laying off 157 employees, including all regional health and safety advisors, who were recently hired to help the agency comply with federal OHS law. The Union of Canadian Transportation Employees believes this decision will endanger workers and the public. Transport Canada claims it’s streamlining the OHS program and  has established a national policy health and safety committee, six regional committees and more than 106 workplaces with JHSCs or representatives.
