Canada is committing to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 40-45% below 2012 levels by 2025. To do so, the federal government will introduce regulations to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by early 2017, with final regulations published by the end of 2017. These regulations will apply to new and existing sources, with the first requirements taking effect as early as 2018, and the remaining requirements taking effect by 2020.
