Feb. 4: Course on Two-Week Work Schedules at Mine Offered

Workers at the Mary River iron mine project will work two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedules, which can be hard on families. So the mine has partnered with the Ilisaqsivik Society, Kakivak Association, Nunavut government and CanNor to create a pilot program called “Work Ready.” Over 10 days, the course, which is delivered in Inuktitut and English, will educate applicants and their spouses on work rotations and the lifestyle changes to expect at both the mine site and home. The goal is to help them understand the challenges of leaving home for extended periods of time and how to organize things within their family, including the importance of communication between workers at the mine and their families at home.
