March 6: Action Plan to Address Sexual Violence and Harassment Announced

The government released an action plan to stop sexual violence and harassment in the province, including its workplaces. The plan says the government will, among other things:

  • Amend the OHS Act to include a definition of sexual harassment, set out explicit requirements for employers to investigate and address workplace harassment and require employers to make every reasonable effort to protect workers from harassment
  • Create a new Code of Practice that will describe steps employers can take to comply with the law
  • Establish a special enforcement team of inspectors trained to address complaints of workplace harassment and enforce the Act’s harassment provisions
  • Develop educational materials to help employers create a safer workplace, free of harassment.
